The Company

GPM, Inc. (GPM) is a closely held corporation, established in 1978, with over 60 employees. The corporate office and manufacturing facility is in Duluth, MN. The company has offices in Apple Valley, MN and Bismarck, ND with sales offices throughout the United States. Approximately 40% of the company’s revenues are the result of manufacturing and marketing its proprietary line of slurry pumps which are primarily sold into the mining, utility, refining and energy industries. Approximately 40% of the company’s revenues come from the sales and distribution of products from leading companies such as Flowserve, Sundyne, Toshiba and Howden. Repair services for all products represented by the company comprise the remainder of the company’s core business.

Position Description

The Inside Support Associate is responsible for directly supporting the outside sales staff. The Inside Support Associate will support a broad range of sales opportunities and products. This will include preparing customer quotations in accordance with the pricing and commercial policies of GPM, Inc. on a timely basis. This position is responsible for the proper selection of pumps and motors according to customer requirements. The Inside Support Associate will have a general understanding of power generating plants, taconite mining plants, refineries, and other industrial processes. Sales opportunities will require knowledge of pumps, motors, seals, fans, boilers, belt drives, gearboxes, and supporting equipment. This position supports and consults outside sales staff, primarily based in the Duluth, MN office. This position requires detailed technical knowledge of GPM’s product lines, and an understanding of the markets served. Duties require a high degree of organization, initiative, independent action, and assertiveness.

The position is vital to establishing a strong relationship with our customers.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position shall have:

  • Associate degree in a technical field
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Direct applicable experience in a similar role with years 1-3 of experience

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary to effectively interact with team members and customers.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft CRM, industrial drawings, and internet-based software.
  • Knowledge of common industry processes including power generation, refining, oil and gas production, and food processing.
  • A willingness to be helpful and supportive of outside sales.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Unquestioned moral and ethical behavior.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Outside Sales to review opportunities and develop supporting quotations and documentation.
  • Provide solutions for customer problems from the product portfolio.
  • Work with our various product factories in order to support customer applications.
  • Review customer purchase orders for correct pricing, discounts, terms and conditions, and part numbers in preparation for order entry.
  • Assist other departments in resolving problems related to customer sales and service.
  • Act as a technical liaison within our office related to the various products.
  • Project management lead on complex or high-profile projects.
  • Various other duties as they are required in a dynamic business environment.

Reporting

The Inside Support Associate position reports directly to the Inside Support Sales Manager.

Coordinates With

  • Members of the Sales Team and other GPM staff.
  • Various staff from the represented and third-party companies.
  • Customers including their engineering, maintenance, technical, and purchasing staff.

Conditions

Works in an office environment. Occasional travel for training or work at other GPM facilities. 40-hour work week, varying start time, with occasional work outside office hours. May accompany sales into the field when necessary. Occasional evening or weekend time may be necessary.
